William Cunningham
William Cunningham was born in 1946. He grew up near Crossgar, County Down and began painting from an early age. Until 1978, Cunningham lectured for several years, then decided to pursue painting after his first exhibition. He is primarily self-taught, naming Tom Carr, James Humbert Craig and Frank McKelvey as stylistic influences. He has exhibited in the Tom Cromie Gallery, The Oriel, Combridges, The Eakin Gallery and many others. Capturing vivid colours and fluid landscapes, Cunningham’s subjects include coastal beach scenes, countryside landscapes, and sailing ships.
