Samuel McCloy
Samuel McCloy (1831-1904) was born in Lisburn. He is most known for genre and figure paintings. He attended Belfast School of Design, whilst serving an engraving apprenticeship. He later studied in London at the Central School at Somerset House. Soon after he was appointed Master of the Waterford School of Art, it was here that he met his wife and fellow artist, E. L. Harris.
Aside from painting, McCloy earned income through various design and illustration jobs for London News and Marcus Ward, a Belfast publishing firm. He exhibited at the Royal Hibernian Academy, the Royal Birmingham Society of Artists and several other London exhibitions.
