Richard J. Croft PPRUA
Richard J. Croft was born in London in 1935. He attended Bromley College of Art from 1951 to 1955, then furthered his education at Brighton College of Art. In 1959, Croft moved to Belfast and became Head of Art at Annadale Grammar School. In 1969, he became a Royal Ulster Academician and then President of the RUA from 1997 to 2000. When Croft retired from teaching, he set up a studio in Dundrum, County Down. He described his method of painting as ‘funambulism or tightrope walking’. Croft passed away in 2025.
