Nano Reid RHA
Born in Drogheda, County Louth, Nano Reid (1905-1981) was an Irish landscape artist, figure painter and portraitist. Her expressionistic style developed through her education at Dublin Metropolitan School of Art (now the National College of Art and Design) under Harry Clarke and Seán Keating. She also attended the Académie de la Grande Chaumiere and the Central School in London, studying under Bernard Meninsky.Reid exhibited at the Dawson Gallery in Dublin, the High Lane Art Gallery and regularly with the Royal Hibernian Academy. She also showed work at the Exhibition of Contemporary Irish Art in Aberystwyth (1953), the Guggenheim International Award Exhibition (1960) and the Twelve Irish Painters Show (1963) in New York.
Reid represented Ireland at the Venice Biennale (1950) and won the Douglas Hyde Gold Medal at the Oireachtas for the best history painting (1972). Retrospectives of her work were held by the arts Council and the Northern Ireland Arts Council, at the Taylor Galleries in Dublin (1984), the Droichead Arts Centre in Drogheda (1991) and at Linenhall Arts Centre in Castlebar, County Mayo (1999).
