Henry Moore OM CH FBA
Henry Spencer Moore was an English visual artist. He is best known for his semi-abstract monumental bronze sculptures. Moore also produced many drawings, along with other graphic works on paper.
Born in 1898, Moore studied at both the Leeds School of Art and the Royal College of Art. In 1946, Moore's first international retrospective was held at the Museum of Modern Art in New York. In 1948, Moore represented Great Britain at the 24th Venice Biennale and won the International Prize for Sculpture. Moore is still celebrated as the most important British sculptor of the twentieth century and was instrumental in introducing a particular form of modernism to the United Kingdom.
